Week Seven News

Kaurihohore School Week Seven, Term Two 2026

Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua," Let our past guide our future

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.

Respect - Empathy - Kindness

Kia ora e te whānau

The term is slipping by quickly—it’s already week seven. I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and had the chance to spend some quality time together as a whānau. These are the moments that our children will truly remember. They won’t recall how hard we worked, how much money we made, or the things we bought for them. What will stay with them is the time we shared.

Childhood passes in the blink of an eye. I encourage you to cherish these fleeting years. Something I read recently resonated deeply with me, especially as a parent of now-adult children. It highlighted just how little time we actually have to enjoy our tamariki, especially when you think of it in terms of summers:

  • With our baby, we have just one summer.

  • With our toddler, we have three summers.

  • With our young child, we have nine summers.

  • And with our teenager, we have five summers—though they may become increasingly reluctant to spend that time with us.

Take the opportunity to slow down, be present, and make memories together. These are the moments that last a lifetime.

Teachers Only Day - 8th June - Next Monday

This is being held on the 8th of June, with all of the curriculum and assessment changes we are currently experiencing, this day will give teachers the opportunity to further grow their understanding of the curriculum and the new reporting frameworks.  School will be closed to children on this day.

Unkind Words and Actions

Recently we have noticed a rise in behaviour that leaves others feeling left out.  We are hearing reports of unkind ‘throw away’ words directed towards others and actions that are aimed at leaving children feeling like they are unwanted in a group, game or activity.  This is happening a lot in our Year 5 and 6 group.  Please talk to your children about the words they use and how it feels to be left out.  Encourage your child to be an upstander and look out for others who may be feeling alone.  Words and actions can either have a positive impact or a negative impact, it is really important children learn the impact their actions can have on others.

It is vital that children tell us when they are on the receiving end of negative actions or words that they can not navigate for themselves, we can help and it helps us to understand what is going on allowing us to follow up with those that are choosing to act in a negative way.

Garage Sale - This Sunday

We would love to see you on Sunday, please spread the word.  We have LOTS of quality items to be sold cheap.  Kelly will also be painting faces on the day.

Thank you to those who have offered help.  We have a huge amount of stuff to move from the pool sheds to the turf, so if you can spare us a few hours on Sunday morning from 7.30am or at the end of the event from 12pm to pack up, we would really appreciate it.

Sponsored Run - Happening Soon!

https://kaurihohorecolourrun.raiseit.co.nz/

This event is a fantastic celebration of who we are, a joyful community event.  There is still time to get your child signed up as a fundraiser, every little bit raised is a massive help to our school, it means we can continue to fund learning support and give all of our children the best possible environment to flourish in, with trusted adults there to support when needed.  Our colour run is very much a celebration of the way our community comes together to make this happen.  If you are not able to fundraise online, please pop into the office and pick up a hard copy form.

After School Care

The school has now taken over ownership of this programme.  Please be patient with us as we find our feet, ultimately we want to ensure children have their afternoon tea, do some homework and get to take part in fun and engaging activities.  Any enquires or if you would like an enrolment form either contact the office or email kaurikidsasc@gmail.com.

Creating a Neurodiversity-Affirming Network

This is happening today.  If you missed this and would like to be part of future get-togethers, you can email Jo and let her know.  Your child does not have to be diagnosed as neurodivergent to take part.  You may just have some wonderings and want to hear from other whānau that are travelling the same path.

If you have let us know you are attending, we look forward to seeing you this afternoon.

Date: Week 7, Wednesday June 3rd

Time: 3:15pm

Location: Ruma Huia / Rm 7

Bike Track

At our last meeting the School Board discussed our current property priorities.  It was decided that the bike track will be an area we will pursue first to complete maintenance on and perhaps even add to.  We will be seeking funding options to do this through grants or via donations/sponsorship.  If you have ideas of how you could help you could email Joel Lauterbach kauribot4@gmail.com or touch base with Dianne in the office.

Pick Up

Children need to be picked up by 3.20pm as this is when teachers go off duty and office staff have other jobs to attend to.  It is worth filling out an enrolment form with after school care if you are ever concerned about being late, this means they can be booked in on a casual basis and prevent you rushing.

If you have children in Rooms 6 - 9 please understand they come out at the end of the day later than the junior classrooms.  We ask that instead of coming early and taking up space at the front of the line, that you come after 3pm, this will allow the line to start moving straight away as junior classes come out to the pick up line at 2.50pm.  If you need to get out of your car to assist your child, please park.  If your child has a bike to put in the car, it is also best to park.

Fundraising

Please return any chocolate money to the office when you can, there are more boxes available to sell if you are keen and able.

Donations

We know that some people prefer to give a donation and you can do this via KINDO.  If you are not sure how to do this, please see Dianne or Shelley in the office.
