Empty Classroom Day

https://www.dirtisgood.com/uk/secure/empty-classroom-day.html

This Thursday (18th) is Empty Classroom Day.  We are joining in with schools all around the world by celebrating the power of play and the important role it plays in learning.

There are really no rules to this day, other than that it is child directed.  Adults will join in and play with, but they will not be directing the play.

We are looking for children to work together, imagine, create and ultimately just have a whole lot of fun!

If you are able to come along on this day (even if it is just for a short time) we know the children would appreciate adults joining in on their play.  We will be starting at 9am and going through to about 2.30pm.

Any loose parts (boxes, wood, tyres, pipes etc etc) can be brought along on the day, but don't expect to get it back.

As it is Nerf Day Thursday, we are also happy for children to bring these along, but do not want any other toys.

Lastly, but definitely not least, children are likely to get dirty, and in some instances...very dirty!  Please ensure they bring a change of clothes along with them on the day.

If the weather really does not work with us we will find another date.  However we will go ahead if it is just drizzle or light rain, so ensure children bring jackets and gumboots if this weather looks likely.

First Good Citizens For The Term

Red and Yellow Day This Friday

We are raising money for Ronald McDonald House this Friday.  Children can dress in red and yellow to show their support for this worthy cause.  Even if they don't dress in red and yellow they can still bring along a donation on the day.

Empty Classroom Day - May 18th

On the 18th of May we will be having an empty classroom day to celebrate the power of self-directed play. On this day all classes will be ‘learning’ outside and play will completely be directed by the children. We would love for anyone that is able to join in this day with your children. Not to direct the play, but to play with them. This might look like building huts, creating mudslides, creating games, making obstacle courses….play is only limited by imaginations. We encourage you to send along anything you think children would love to use in their play on this day (please do not expect to get it back) like safe pieces of wood, tyres, cardboard boxes, old sheets, old pots and pans etc etc. We do not want toys however. The aim of this day is for children to be creative and use their imaginations. We are also hoping that younger and older children will play together inventing games and using their imaginations. The children are very excited about this day. It is important that all children wear old clothes on this day and come prepared with a change of clothes, as there is a high chance they will get dirty. If the weather is not completely favourable we will postpone and have this on another day.
