Kia ora, hello, talofa lava, mālō e lelei, bula vinaka, ni hao, konnichiwa, namaste, hallo, marhaba, as-salamu alaykum, bonjour, hola, and warm greetings to all our everyone!
The last few weeks have been very busy and no doubt everyone is getting a little weary as we make our way to the end of week ten, which would usually be the end of term.
Our colour run event was not only an explosion of colour, but an awesome celebration of our wonderful community, the determination shown on the day by all of our children was truly amazing. We had Kye and Jackson with some amazing running to set the new record for boys at 29 laps (previously 28) and while we didn’t have a new record set by the girls Eliza and Lydia completed a very impressive 24. The girls record will remain with Ruby who ran 27 laps last year. Our bike track is 374.4m, when you think about the laps completed in terms of distance, that is incredibly impressive!
This event is also a celebration of our support staff, Haylee, Maycie, Dianne and Shelley who help us to create a safe and nurturing place for children to be. Ministry funding is incredibly hard to access and at times non-existent, so we are incredibly grateful for your fundraising.
This year we managed to raise $10, 410 after our costs were paid. More than last year, when we lost almost half of what we raised to pay for the toys that children won.
We hope to make this event bigger and better next year and we hope it is something you can continue to get behind. We would love to make this one of the only fundraisers we do if we could make it big enough, we know how hard constant fundraising can be for everyone.
Outdoor classroom day was simply awesome, it is always wonderful to see play being celebrated in this way.
We genuinely appreciate all of your efforts in supporting our school!

Halloween Fundraiser
Halloween Update from the school board:
A huge thank you to everyone who offered time and support for this year’s Halloween event.
After careful consideration, the Board and School have decided not to go ahead with the event this year. While we had some offers of help, there wasn’t enough overall community support to run it to the standard that has made it such a success in the past. We’re also competing with several other Halloween events happening at the same time, which has affected participation.
Without sufficient involvement, the event just isn’t viable this year.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Halloween over the years — volunteering, attending, sponsoring, or helping behind the scenes. You’ve made it a special part of our community.
We look forward to your support in our other upcoming fundraisers throughout the year - new ideas most welcome!

Matariki Celebrations - July 2nd 2pm
Our kura will be celebrating Matariki this term. Each class will share their learning and understanding of the Matariki stars, and our tuakana (senior) and teina (junior) kapa haka will also perform a waiata.
Nau mai haere mai if you are available. We would love to have you there.
Chocolate Fundraiser
We still have a lot of outstanding chocolate money owing. Please could we have this brought to the office before the end of this term. If you want extra time or could sell more over the holidays, please come and see Dianne. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
End of Term Awards - July 3rd 2.10pm
This will be held at 2.10pm under the canopy, everyone is welcome to come along. We will award class certificates and then announce the Good Citizen for this term.
Pick Up
Children in Rooms 1-5 will come out to the pick up line at 2.50pm slightly before the bell to get the line moving. If you have children in Rooms 6 - 9 please wait till 3.00pm to join the line as the older children do not come out until the bell rings and many are very slow at making their way down. If we can clear a majority of our junior children first, the line will flow much more smoothly.
Please don’t park in the line, find a car park if you are wanting to come in and pick up your child, you are welcome to use the staff car park if there is space. If your child has a bike it is easier to park, or join the line a little later when it is not so busy.
Children need to be picked up by 3.20pm as this is when teachers go off duty and office staff have other jobs to attend to. It is worth filling out an enrolment form with after school care if you are ever concerned about being late, this means they can be booked in on a casual basis and prevent you rushing.
Our pick up system relies on everyone doing their part and being considerate of others, we thank you for your support.
Reports
These will be sent home via seesaw towards the end of next week. As you will already know from my past newsletters the curriculum has had a few updates in 2024 and 2025. The constant changes and expectations have been difficult to come to grips with and the last change to the curriculum in October of 2025 raised the bar again in English and Maths. Below is a visual that hopefully will help explain the new descriptors that teachers will be referring to in their written reporting to you. As the bar has been raised, what was expected of a year two is now expected from a year one and so on. This means reporting from last year may not match reporting from this year as the expectations we are measuring against have changed. Please understand, we are doing our best to ensure children all have the best opportunity possible to meet the new expectations, but this will take time. Your support at home for their learning goals is vital for their progress.
Whānau Conferences - 6th August
As part of the reporting cycle, we will be holding these on the 6th of August. These conferences are an opportunity to catch up with your child’s teacher and ask questions that you may have. Children in year 4 up may attend the conference with you and be part of the learning discussion. Booking for these conferences will open next term.
Attendance
One key factor in achievement is attendance. Regular attendance contributes hugely to a child’s progress, not only academically but socially and emotionally. Classes are busy places, we cover a lot of learning in a day, when children are away they miss out on a lot and then have to catch up. If children are sick they absolutely need to stay home, otherwise, they need to be at school. If you have no alternative but to make an appointment during the day, try to make it at a time that means you can bring them back to school, they do not need to miss a whole school day for an appointment.
Regular attendance is considered 90% or above, you will see your child’s attendance percentage written on their upcoming report.

After School Care
The school has now taken over ownership of this programme. Please be patient with us as we find our feet, ultimately we want to ensure children have their afternoon tea, do some homework and get to take part in fun and engaging activities. Any enquires or if you would like an enrolment form either contact the office or email kaurikidsasc@gmail.com.

We know that some people prefer to give a donation and you can do this via KINDO. If you are not sure how to do this, please see Dianne or Shelley in the office.
