A big welcome back to you all, especially our new families. We are happy to have you as part of our Kaurihohore whānau.
A warm welcome to Ryan Fickling, who has joined us this term. Ryan has stepped in to cover Lisa Lipsham’s maternity leave.
Term three will be a busy one with several events scheduled. Keep an eye on our social media and Seesaw to stay up to date with what is happening.
I would like to express our gratitude to Plantpro and Sons for the work undertaken over the holidays on our top playground, completely free of charge! Ngā mihi nui!

Reports
These were shared via Seesaw at the end of last term. As you will already know from my past newsletters, the curriculum has undergone several updates in 2024 and 2025. The constant changes and expectations have been challenging to navigate, and the latest update in October 2025 raised the bar again for English and Maths.
Below is a visual that hopefully helps explain the new descriptors teachers will refer to in their written reporting. As the bar has been raised, what was previously expected of a Year 2 student is now expected from a Year 1 student, and so on. This means reporting from last year may not match reporting from this year, as the benchmarks have shifted. Please understand that we are doing our best to ensure all children have the best opportunity to meet these new expectations, but this will take time. Your support at home for their learning goals is vital for their progress.
Basically, children have not gone backwards, the expectations have been raised!
Whānau Conferences - 6th August
As part of the reporting cycle, we will be holding conferences on the 6th of August. These are an opportunity to catch up with your child’s teacher and ask any questions you may have. You may not feel you have anything specific to discuss, so there is no requirement to make an appointment; you are welcome to catch up with teachers at any stage during the year. Children in Year 4 and above may attend the conference with you to participate in the learning discussion. Bookings are now open on the Skool Loop app—simply click on "bookings" to begin.
On this day school will finish at 1.45pm, please have them picked up by 2pm.
Attendance
Our Term 2 attendance was slightly lower than last year. Regular attendance is considered 90%, and you will have seen your child’s termly attendance noted on their report. Please ensure children are at school every day unless they are unwell. If they have an appointment early in the day, please bring them to school afterward. If they have an afternoon appointment, please bring them to school in the morning and pick them up early.
Regular attendance is vital for academic progress, but even more important for social and emotional progress.

School Cross Country
This will be held on the 19th of August starting with the seniors at 9.15am. More details will be sent out closer to the time.
Kauri’s Got Talent
Classes will be running initial auditions and will send out more information as needed. Semi-finals will be held during lunchtimes (Weeks 4–6) when staff are available, and the finals will take place at 1:30 pm on the 10th of September.
Ag and Flower Day
This will be held on the 18th of September. Entry forms for children that would like to bring a lamb or calf on the day were sent home this week. If you have any questions about this, please see Dianne.
More information about the organisation of the day will be sent home closer to the time.
Kaurihohore School - 150th Jubilee
Our school celebrates its 150th anniversary next year! We have set the 23rd of October as the date for this celebration and will provide more information as planning progresses. If you or anyone you know would like to help plan this event, please speak with Shelley. Please also help us spread the word to past families to save the date.
Golf Tournament Fundraiser
This year, we are planning a golf fundraiser as an alternative to our Halloween event. This will be an adults-only event and promises to be a lot of fun. Start organising your teams now, and we will release more information soon.

Enrolments close for Out-of-Zone Applicants.
In-Zone students have automatic acceptance.
