Kaurihohore School Week Three, Term Two 2026
Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua," Let our past guide our future
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
Kia ora e te whānau
The term is ticking along well, with busy, productive classrooms, it has been lovely to enjoy some nice weather recently. We are very appreciative of the support children receive from home, school and home form an important partnership. If you ever have questions or concerns, please check in with your child’s teacher. The quicker we can deal with any issues or clear up any queries the better.
Next week is Support Staff week. Our school prioritises people over bells and whistles, having as many trusted adults at school as possible allows us to do our best to meet the wellbeing needs of our children. It is well established that children need to feel safe and happy at school in order to be successful socially, emotionally and academically. Our support staff play a big role in this process. They are so important that our fundraising efforts go towards this as the funding provided by the government does not meet these needs.
If you get a chance, say thank you to our support staff (Shelley, Dianne, Haylee and Maycie) they go above and beyond for our children and deserve our gratitude. Our school wouldn’t be the place it is without them.

Bike Track
At our school Board meeting last night we discussed our current property priorities. It was decided that the bike track will be an area we will pursue first to complete maintenance on and perhaps even add to. We will be seeking funding options to do this through grants or via donations/sponsorship. If you have ideas of how you could help you could email Joel Lauterbach kauribot4@gmail.com or touch base with Dianne in the office.
Cybersafety
We are currently reviewing our processes in this area. When you enrol your child, you are asked to go over a cybersafety/device agreement. We have decided to send this home each year for our children in year 4 up. Children in these year levels will be bringing a hard copy agreement home for you to discuss with them, we ask that they write their name to say they have had it discussed with them and that you sign to say you are happy with this agreement. Teachers will also be going over the content of the agreements. At Kaurihohore we are very device light, we will be developing a procedure document that gives you clarity around what your child will engage with and will not engage with at school. When this is done, we will be sharing it with you.
Respect
We are having ongoing issues with children not respecting our environment, property and resources. Recently we have had to spend hundreds on plumbing because toilets have been blocked and taps left on. This is something we need to work on together, encouraging children to ask ‘what if everyone did that?’ and help them see how their actions can negatively impact others.
If teachers contact you to talk about this or other behaviour, please know that we only do this if we feel we have to, we appreciate you working with us to problem solve in a respectful manner. At school we encourage children to own it (whatever part they have played in an incident) fix it and learn from it. We really appreciate you assisting us with this.
Parking
Please do not park on the yellow lines outside of our school. This area makes visibility very difficult for those pulling out of the school driveway. If there are spaces free in the staff car park you are welcome to use this area to park, alternatively come slightly after the 2.55pm rush when more car parks will be available.
Sponsored Colour Run
This event is always a highlight in our calendar. You can get your child registered by following this link. Every little bit raised will make a big difference and go directly to supporting all of our children at school.

Attendance
Attendance plays a massive role in achievement, not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Please ensure your children are at school and on time unless they are unwell or there are extenuating circumstances preventing their attendance.
Fundraising
Chocolates are now available at the office, if you put your name down to sell these, we would like you to pick them up ASAP.
Donations
We know that some people prefer to give a donation and you can do this via KINDO. If you are not sure how to do this, please see Dianne or Shelley in the office.
Monday Market
King's Birthday, Monday Market is coming up in a few weeks time and I'm running the cafe on behalf of our school. Selling your yummy sweets and treats at the market is a great little fundraiser for our school so spread the word.
Also, let me know if you are keen to help out in the kitchen on the day too!
Ps- I'll send out a reminder the week before, and will look to collect your baking on Sunday or Monday morning.
Thanks!
