Week One School News

Kaurihohore School Week One, Term Two 2026

Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua," Let our past guide our future

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.

Respect - Empathy - Kindness

Kia ora e te whānau

Welcome back to a new term.  A massive welcome to all of our new families, we hope you love it here as much as we do.

This term is an eleven week term and hopefully a lot less hectic than last term.  Classes are already back in the swing of routines and teachers are happy with how children have settled back in.

Remember to keep an eye on our facebook page, along with your child’s seesaw journal and our messages. Skool Loop is another way you can keep in touch with what is going on and it is easily loaded onto your phone.  If in doubt, you can go onto our school blog site and look back through old newsletters, which are posted on the page.  We try to communicate with you in a variety of ways to ensure you have all of the information you need.

Last term many classes will have shared narrative assessments within some curriculum areas, please make time to read these as we try to share information with you through real time reporting, outlining your child’s strengths and next steps.  If these have not been completed yet, you can expect blurbs in maths, reading and writing to be shared this term.  This does look a little different in our junior rooms as we are more likely to share with you snapshots of information, giving you easy ideas on how you can help your child get started on their learning journey.

This term a report will also come home that will show you where your child is achieving in terms of the curriculum along with their dispositions as a learner.  As I have shared with you in the past, there have been rapid and continuous changes with the curriculum and we are still adjusting to this, the last change was issued on the last day of the holidays. These changes and updates are proving hard to keep up with, however as always we will do our best to let you know how your child is progressing and what their next steps are.

Your role in this learning process is vital and small amounts of practice make a huge difference to the progress that your child will make.  Research shows us that repeated, regular practice is a huge factor in learning progress.  We appreciate any efforts you can make at home to support us with this.  Five - ten minutes each afternoon, or morning, make a huge difference.

Please remember that this is a partnership, ensure all of your communications with us model respect, kindness and empathy so that we can enjoy a productive relationship with you.

It looks like the water fight day was a huge success.  You may or may not know that we have a school council that meets every fortnight with me.  They share unsolved problems from their class meetings that need solutions and offer ideas around events such as this.  This is a great way to harness the voice of our children and help them to see that they can play an active role in the decision making process.

As we move into the colder part of the year, please ensure children have appropriate clothing at school and make sure they have a change of clothes.  Hats are not required and children may wear caps if they would like this term and next.

As always, thanks for all of your support.

Attendance

Last term 89% of our roll attended regularly (90% of the time) . We hope that this term can be even better.  Please ensure children are at school unless they are sick or there are extenuating circumstances.

Supporting With Learning At Home

Our goal this year as a staff is to clearly communicate to you about maths teaching, to have consistency across our syndicate groups and to share with you easy and accessible ways you can help with math at home that will be fun and engaging.  Over the year we will add to our youtube channel and create playlists, teachers will share these with you from time to time, but they can be found here: https://youtube.com/@kaurihohoreschool3834?si=svPgkk0Ae1r6iQsb

You can then click on playlists from here. As this channel and the videos are unlisted, you will need the link to get to them.
