Isn’t it amazing how time flies, it is already week three and it seems like we were never on holiday!
It is great to see our tamariki settled into school and classes humming away.
Thank you all for getting used to the new routines around drop off and pick up and for reading and adhering to the guidelines that we have set to make this process easier.
We look forward to a great day at the beach on Friday.

Pick up and Drop Off
It is great to see that this is working well. Some points to remember:
Room 1-5 come out to the courtyard at 2.50pm. If you have a child in Room 6 - 9, please don’t join the line until 3.00pm or after. If we have cars at the front of the line, waiting for children in Rooms 6-9, this holds things up. There may not seem like a lot of impact, but it certainly affects the flow of traffic at this time of day. If you have children in both areas of the school, come at the later allotted time please.
If you park and walk in to get your child, please walk across the crossing and use the pedestrian gate. Children need to wait for you to come across.
If you are picking up a child off the bus, please wait till 3.20pm to arrive, leaving car parks for those that need them.
If your child has sports practice, please delay arriving till 3.15pm at the earliest to allow those picking up their children to do so easily.
Do not walk across the car park.
It is really difficult for us to see your car, the fence makes it quite confusing for staff, so please don’t be offended if we repeatedly ask you who you are picking up.
Please encourage your child to watch for their car and if they see you, pop up straight away to wait at the gate.
Please pull up as far as you can and don’t stop outside the gate, children will walk to you.
While we have work going on, we ask that you don’t park in the front bus bay before 2.45pm, to allow any trailers or trucks to access this area. This area needs to be kept clear as much as possible before 2.45pm and after 3.30pm.
If you need to pick up your child straight away because of other commitments, it is best to find a car park and come in and collect them. There are generally car parks available to access.
Also another reminder to not block the driveway. Please even if you are in the line, leave the entrance clear, so those needing to get through to park can do so.
Please pick your child by 3.20pm, if you are going to be later than this, we need to know. It is not very fair to expect staff to wait until well after this to ensure your child is safe before they get on with the rest of their day. If you are going to be routinely late, you need to start booking them into after school care.
If everyone follows the guidelines, it makes it easier for everyone. I guess it comes back to the saying “what if everyone did that?” If none of us followed the guidelines, it would be absolute chaos and prevent us from keeping you and your children safe.
Beach Trip - This Friday
Yesterday I sent out the guidelines for the beach. I appreciate it is quite the novel, but please read and digest what these say. These are all the things we need to put in place to ensure everyone has a safe and happy day.
The school has been going to the beach for 40+ years. From what I can understand, it has always been the same beach, but over that time our roll has grown substantially.
We continue this tradition, but with a larger roll, it is no mean feat. The beach trip is a massive EOTC outing and carries with it Health and Safety requirements that we do not take lightly. We all know that EOTC events, when it comes to schools, have been in the media over the past few years and this is something we do not carry easily as a staff. We would hate to end such a fantastic tradition but it is getting harder every year. To make it possible, we need your cooperation with the guidelines we set down. It may seem that ‘you’ doing something different will have no impact, but what if everyone did that?
Children need to be on our roll for the day, this means we need to meet at school. If they are not on our roll, they are technically under your supervision and absent from school. This becomes a really grey area and might not seem like a big deal, but for Dianne, who is trying to keep track of everyone, it is a massive deal.
Children also benefit from being able to come to school and take someone else in their car, it is an important part of feeling like they are part of something. Not only that, it also helps you to get to know other parents better.
Because we require more supervision than transport, it is also really beneficial to car pool as it cuts down on the car parks that we will need on the day. If we have numerous cars, just taking one or two children, this makes it difficult for everyone to find a car park.
We ask that you help us to ensure our whole school can have a great day at the beach as a collective. As a collective, we should intuitively know that our actions have a ripple effect and impact on others and care about the impact we have.

We still have a few positions across the school for out of zone children in Year 5. If you know of anyone looking to enrol, ask them to email Chelsea kaurienrolments@gmail.com and come for a look around. If you know of any families who live in the zone, or may be moving into the zone, please encourage them to contact us as early as possible, so we can calculate them into our numbers.

You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message. Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm. We will respond the next day as soon as we can. Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.

If you have questions or concerns, please direct these to your child’s teacher as soon as you can, so we can nip anything in the bud before it becomes a bigger issue.
Easter Break
Please note that this year Easter is in term time, when this happens school is closed on Friday, Monday and Tuesday (29th-2nd April)
Fundraising Term One
Our first fundraiser is the Easter raffle. Tickets have been sent home and we ask that you endeavour to sell these. Any raffles organised by Dianne are always worth winning. Can you send donations towards this raffle, it can be chocolate, grocery items, art, toys anything really that people would love to win as part of a raffle. If you are unable to sell your tickets, please send these back to the office.
