Kia ora e te whānau, nau mai hoki mai, welcome back!
A big welcome to all of our new whānau, we look forward to getting to know you and your children this year.
We will always endeavour to do our best for you and your children, we look forward to working together with you in this partnership.
We look forward to another great year here at Kaurihohore.

Pick up and Drop Off
Please read the information sent home regarding drop off and pick up. The new fence has changed the way we need to do things, and may slow things down, as our visibility is not great. We will do our best as we get to know your cars. What will really help is adhering to the times we have set out as guidelines. 2.50pm - 3.00pm for Room 1-5 and Room 6-9 3pm onwards. If you have a child in the older class, please come at the later time indicated. This should reduce pressure on the line and ease waiting times.
Whānau with intermediate children who get off the bus here at school, please wait till 3.15pm to arrive. If you are here for a sports practice, please wait till 3.20pm. Children are all supervised till this time. If someone out of the ordinary is picking up your child, please phone and let us know.
When you drop off children, please park adjacent to the yellow lines, so children can walk safely up the pedestrian walkway. Do not park parallel to another car. If your child gets out of the right hand side, they need to walk behind your car, not in front. Children can be dropped off from 7.45am, not earlier, they need to wait in the courtyard until the bell rings at 8am.
If your child is slow getting into the car at the end of the day, it may be easier to find a park and come in and collect them, this will avoid holding up the line.
If you think your child may not recognise the vehicle that is picking them up, or we might not know the adult by sight, it is possibly best to tell them to park and walk across the crossing to pick up.
When pulling up into the line, pull up as far as you can, don’t stop in front of the gate, this allows us to get more cars into the line and more children into cars.
Fencing The School
The fencing project has been instigated by the MOE in response to some of our youngest children struggling to stay on site. It is expected to be completed by March.
Phones At School
Please note that children are not to bring phones to school. If they need to contact you, they can come to the school office and phone you from there. If for some reason they absolutely have to have their phone, they must leave it at the school office and pick it up after school.
New Toilets
You will notice that the old car park in front of the pool has been excavated. A new toilet block is being built here and is expected to take about six months to complete.
Enrolments
We still have a few positions across the school for out of zone children in Year 5. If you know of anyone looking to enrol, ask them to email Chelsea kaurienrolments@gmail.com and come for a look around. If you know of any families who live in the zone, or may be moving into the zone, please encourage them to contact us as early as possible, so we can calculate them into our numbers.
Sponsorship
We are currently sitting down to work out our budget for 2024. Unfortunately for us, 2024 and 2025 are going to see us relying very again very heavily on fundraising and sponsorship. We've predicted this for the last five years with a massive group of Year 6 children leaving. Schools are funded on their roll, and of course a massive group going out, means a drop in funding. Technically we should be running eight classrooms next year, but we choose to operate nine, this is where the shortfall comes in.
We have set a target of $35 000 to raise through fundraising, which is a massive ask!
Currently our budget, even with this fundraising hoped for, is sitting at a $50 000 deficit, and that is being conservative. We prioritise people over things and so direct the money we raise goes towards learning and wellbeing support inside and outside of classrooms and towards keeping our class rolls as small as possible. If you know of a business that may be interested in sponsoring us in some way, please let them know to get in contact.
Contacting Us
You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message. Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm. We will respond the next day as soon as we can. Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.

Easter Break
Please note that this year Easter is in term time, when this happens school is closed on Friday, Monday and Tuesday (29th-2nd April)
Beach Trip - 23rd February
On this day, the whole school travels to the beach. A form will be coming home about this today that will give you more information.
For this trip to go ahead, it is absolutely crucial that we have the necessary supervision to do so. While it can often seem that we have too many cars, it is needed. We need people prepared to come to the beach and supervise a small group of children in and out of the water. If you feel your child would struggle on this day, then we ask that you come along to supervise them yourselves. It is a huge responsibility to take the whole school to the beach and we can not do it without your support. Please return your forms ASAP.
Dates For 2024
School starts back on the 5th of February and the year will end on the 18th of December. We do not yet have return dates for 2025 and will not set these dates till at least halfway through the year. However you can find indicated dates set by the Ministry by googling, which are yet to be confirmed by the Minister.
Fundraising Term One
More information will come out about any fundraisers this year. As you will know from my newsletters last year, we need to raise around $35 000 to cover curriculum costs this year. This term we will have an Easter raffle and be selling bulbs, again, we will let you know more about these fundraisers in time.
