Kia ora e te whānau,
We had a wonderful Halloween event, made possible by some incredible help. A big thank you to our naming sponsor Crofts for your continued support. A huge thank you to all of our other sponsors who ensure we are able to maximise our profit on the day!
There were so many people that helped make this event a success and while I will mention some by name, I want to acknowledge everyone that helped in some way, either before the event, during the event or at the conclusion of the event.
A special thanks to:
Kim Christensen and Emma Bowering for your amazing oversight of this event.
Kylie Armitage for overseeing decorations and Claire Saunders for taking a leading role in the decorations in the lead up to the day.
And in no particular order:
Jane Mitchel
Belinda Loring
Bronwyn Bayne
Maria Benson
Chubbie Hale
Jeremy Croft
Lena Newport
Zola McDonald
Guy Upton
Holly Lucas
Nathanael McDonald
Felice Croft
Northland Horror
Lee Warmington
Nicole Robinson
Jack Robinson
James Lucas
Chelsea Guy
Abby Carthew
Anahera Lauterbach
Alice Morris
Nan Ma
Simone Veldsman
The whole staff put in a huge effort before the day, on the day and packing up at the end of the day!
There were so many other people that assisted in decorations, set up and clean up, there are too many to name, but please know that we are very grateful and could not do it without you!
We are already looking forward to Halloween 2025 and planning is underway, while it is fresh in our minds. If you would like to be on board from the beginning, or put your hand up in some way to take a leadership role, please contact Chelsea Woods at school.

Staffing 2025
I would like to let you know that we will have some changes for 2025. Chrissie Wade will be retiring from her administration role and this role will be taken over by Shelley Buckton, with some duties allocated to Chelsea Woods.
Jill Moscrip is also leaving her job as classroom release teacher and will be replaced by Helen Teal.
We have also just found out yesterday that Michelle Douglas has won a position at another school and will also be leaving us. We are currently advertising for a New Entrant teacher and will keep you updated on this process.
These three have spent an extended time as part of our Kaurihohore Community and are woven into the very fabric of our place. We will miss them greatly, but wish them all well.
We also have Jo Kake who will be taking the year off to study te Reo Māori. She will return to us in 2026 and we look forward to benefiting from everything that she learns. Steve Ferguson will cover this move.
Trophies
Please send back by the end of this term any trophies that your child won at the end of 2023. This will allow us time to get them engraved for 2024.
Planning for 2025 - Out of Zone Positions
We have several out of zone positions available for older children in Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 for 2025. If you know of anyone considering changing schools and may be interested in a position at our school, please have them contact Chelsea via email kaurienrolments@gmail.com or give us a call.
If you know your child will not be returning to Kaurihohore next year, please let us know as soon as you can. If you know of any families planning to move into our zone, please encourage them to get in touch. This allows us to plan more accurately for 2025.
This information is vital to us as it directly impacts our funding and staffing. When we know in advance we can offer places to others to cover any spaces that have been vacated.
Hats
Hats must be worn in Term 1 and 4. Hats must have a full brim or a flap at the back. Please name your child’s hat and help them to remember it each day. Please no caps at all, thank you.
Sponsorship
We gratefully appreciate any sponsorship from local businesses, or even those further afield. Our fence is a great place for signs that have a high degree of visibility for our community and those going past. $500 sponsorship qualifies for a sign on the fence. We always have lots of things we are looking for sponsorship for, currently we are looking for a sponsor for our House of Science membership ($800) for 2025, this is a great initiative aimed at ensuring children are enthused about Science and develop good understandings. We are also looking for sponsorship to purchase more chapter books across the school.
Attendance
Last term we only had 50% of our school roll attend regularly, this is very low for us and we’d love to improve on this, this term. The government is cracking down on attendance and if a child has up to ten days absent we may communicate with you to discuss the attendance of your child. Ten days absent is classified as ‘worrying.’ Ten days absent is one day a week, which equates to two full weeks, when thought of in these terms, that is a LOT of time away from school.
We all understand the importance of children being at school. Regular attendance is counted as 90%. Please ensure your child is at school unless they are unwell and unable to attend.
Senior Athletics
This event will be held on the 13th of November. This event is for Year 3-6. More information will come out soon about this, but the start time will be 9.30am and the event will be completed by lunchtime.
End Of Year Prize givings
Please note the dates and times for these. The 13th of December at 1.30pm is the junior event (Year 1-3) and the 16th of December at 1.30pm is the senior event (Year 4-6.)
More information will be sent home about these closer to the time. Everyone is welcome to attend these events and we aim to keep them as short and informal as possible.
Cookie Time Orders
These have gone out and need to be returned by Friday the 15th.
Monster Raffle
Our annual monster raffle is underway and tickets were sent out this week for families to sell. If you are unable to sell these, please return them. If you would like more raffle books, please come in and see Dianne.
Last Day Of Term
Please note our last day for the year is the 18th of December and school finishes at 12.00pm. Our first day back next year will be Monday the 3rd of February.
Contacting Us
You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message, from here they can quickly answer any questions or make time with you to meet face to face. Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm. We will respond the next day as soon as we can. Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.
