Kaurihohore School Week Two, Term Four 2024
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness

“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”
Kia ora e te whānau,
Welcome back to school for Term four. If you are anything like me, you probably wonder where this year has gone. Time sure is whipping by!
Our Halloween event is just over a week away. A small group of parents have been working busily behind the scenes and we need everyone's support to make this a success. Even if you are not a fan of Halloween, this is an important fundraiser for our school and there are many ways you can help.
*You can go through unwanted toys and donate any that are in good condition to the market.
*You can check with your child’s teacher if any other donations are needed, or jump on facebook and reply to Kim.
*You can come along to help us pack up.
And if you are a fan…
*You can put on a costume and come along as a scarer. The more people we have, the better the vibe and if you are not into being scary, join the teachers this year as we embody a more friendly side of Halloween, dressing as well known characters.
*You can supervise the bouncy castle.
*You can come along and help with setting up.
*You can come along and help with parking.
*You can come along and give others a break from the stalls they are assigned to.
Remember, this is a public event and we need our whole school community to pitch in. Like all of our fundraisers, this money will go directly towards paying for learning support, which all children benefit from in some way. In total the school funds this to around the tune of $50 000 if not more, so every cent counts.
Looking forward to a busy and productive Term 4, we appreciate you!

Trophies
Please send back by the end of this term any trophies that your child won at the end of 2023. This will allow us time to get them engraved for 2024.
Planning for 2025
If you know your child will not be returning to Kaurihohore next year, please let us know as soon as you can. If you know of any families planning to move into our zone, please encourage them to get in touch. This allows us to plan more accurately for 2025.
This information is vital to us as it directly impacts our funding and staffing. When we know in advance we can offer places to others to cover any spaces that have been vacated.
Swimming
Swimming has started this week. Please ensure children have their togs at school on their swimming day. Swimming is part of the curriculum, so please let your child’s teacher know if there is a reason your child is not swimming. While the weather is still a little up and down, teachers will make a decision based on the conditions each day. Some of the sessions are very early in the day and at this time of year it may still be a little chilly.
Hats
Hats must be worn in Term 1 and 4. Hats must have a full brim or a flap at the back. Please name your child’s hat and help them to remember it each day.
Fundraising
We are so grateful to have such a supportive community. As you are aware, our budget is stretched trying to provide all of the support our children need. This year we aimed to raise at least $35 000, which is a huge sum! As of the end of Term 3 we had raised just under $28 000. This is such a massive effort already. Every cent we raise above our target helps to reduce that deficit even further.
This term we have our Halloween event coming up and then we have our Christmas raffle, which Dianne is busy sorting at the moment. Dianne does a stellar job of gathering amazing prizes, if you know of any businesses that might like to donate items or money towards prizes, please let Dianne know.
Pizza Day
Pizza will be served on the 6th of November, orders for this close the Sunday prior, so get your orders in early so you don’t forget. All orders through Kindo.
We will have another pizza day on the 11th of December.
Sponsorship
We gratefully appreciate any sponsorship from local businesses, or even those further afield. Our fence is a great place for signs that have a high degree of visibility for our community and those going past. $500 sponsorship qualifies for a sign on the fence. We always have lots of things we are looking for sponsorship for, currently we are looking for a sponsor for our House of Science membership ($800) for 2025, this is a great initiative aimed at ensuring children are enthused about Science and develop good understandings. We are also looking for sponsorship to purchase more chapter books across the school
Library Bus
The library bus will be here this Friday the 25th and then back every fortnight on a Friday.
Attendance
We all understand the importance of children being at school. Regular attendance is counted as 90%. Please ensure your child is at school unless they are unwell and unable to attend.
Senior Athletics
This event will be held on the 13th of December. This event is for Year 3-6. More information will come out soon about this, but the start time will be 9.30am and the event will be completed by lunchtime.
End Of Year Prize givings
Please note the dates and times for these. The 13th of December at 1.30pm is the junior event (Year 1-3) and the 16th of December at 1.30pm is the senior event (Year 4-6.)
More information will be sent home about these closer to the time. Everyone is welcome to attend these events and we aim to keep them as short and informal as possible.
Communicating with Teachers
If you have any questions or concerns, please catch up with your child’s teacher face to face early on or message to set up a quick meeting. We find a quick meeting early on can stop small problems from becoming bigger issues. Please avoid discussing any problems with office staff as they are unlikely to be able to offer a solution.
Last Day Of Term
Please note our last day for the year is the 18th of December and school finishes at 12.00pm. Our first day back next year will be Monday the 3rd of February.
Contacting Us
You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message, from here they can quickly answer any questions or make time with you to meet face to face. Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm. We will respond the next day as soon as we can. Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.
