Kaurihohore School Week Six, Term Three 2024
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai
“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”
Kia ora e te whānau,
Well here we are at week six, amazing how time flies by. It is certainly a busy time, with a lot on and we are, as always, very grateful for all the support we receive from our community.
However many hands make light work, so please don’t leave it to the same people to constantly be helping, times have changed and everyone works full time now, so spreading the load is what we would like to be able to do. Even if you can just help with one thing over the year, that would be a great help.
This week we welcome Esther Allen from the Education Review Office. We have not had ERO here for a long time, our last review was in Term 4 of 2016, so I am excited to share how far we have come in that time. Esther was part of the review team last time, so I am sure she will see all the wonderful changes since then.

Cross Country
This was a great event last Wednesday, it was wonderful to see everyone taking part (even if it isn’t their favourite thing to do) and the smiles on the faces of our littlest runners were priceless. The support our older children show to their younger counterparts is something to be very proud of. We had some excellent results and some of our senior children will now move onto Barge Park to compete.
School Disco
This will be held on Friday.
This event is for our students only, no pre-school children will be allowed to attend.
If your child may have difficulty being at the disco alone, we ask you to stay.
Children are not to bring phones or other devices at all please. Please pick them up promptly at 7pm, you will need to come in so we can sight you before your child is allowed to leave.
Kindness - Empathy - Respect
Once in a while, our children just need some small reminders of our school values. Lately we have seen some increased mean and inappropriate behaviour from a small minority of our children towards others. We have explained to our children that name calling, swearing, teasing and put downs, while they may not be bullying, are mean behaviours that will not be tolerated. Our children know better.
If your child’s teacher feels you need to know about something your child has done, they will be in contact. We appreciate your support in reminding your child about the values they need to adhere to at school and hopefully in the wider community.
School Photos
School photos will be taken on the 5th of September. Orders have now closed for these.
Calf Club/Flower Day
This will be held on the 23rd of October. If your child will be entering a calf, lamb or goat, please get them to collect a registration form from the office.
Out of Zone Places 2025
These positions open on the 2nd of September. If your child will be starting with us next year and you are out of our zone, you need to put in an application. We account for siblings in our numbers, but without the application for our records, we can not award the position.
If you know of other families that are wanting to apply for a position in 2025, please encourage them to do so, even if the position is not available, we can add them to our waitlist via that process. Applications close on the 15th of October.

Fundraising Term Two
School Disco
Friday the 30th of August at the Hikurangi clubrooms. $8 per ticket, these are available through the office or via Kindo.
We are very grateful to PAK’nSAVE Whangārei for providing us with a $100 voucher, this will be very helpful and allow us to make the most of funds raised. We are grateful for the support.
If you are able to do baking for the night, this would be greatly appreciated.
