Kaurihohore School Week Ten, Term Two 2024

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.

Respect - Empathy - Kindness

He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai

“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”

Kia ora e te whānau,

Here we are, almost at the end of term two.  If you are anything like me, you are probably wondering where the time went and how the holidays came up so fast!

Term two has been a good one for us, filled with loads of opportunities for our children.  We are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated teachers, who go out of their way to not only seek out these opportunities, but who make these opportunities possible.

As we end the term, one thing remains top of mind for me.  How do we continue to do our best to support ALL of our children and provide them with the support they need in a system that is not fit for purpose.  We fight tooth and nail for our children, so many deserve a teacher aide, so many deserve extra learning support, yet we are faced with a system that does not meet their needs, does not acknowledge this need and does not fund this need.  I can hand on heart say that here at Kaurihohore we do all that we can, within our means (and then some) but it is still not enough.

That is why the recent coloured run really made my heart sing.  To see us out there, raising money that will directly go towards learning support was outstanding.  I thank you for your enthusiasm to help OUR children and am forever hopeful that one day we may have a system that meets all of their needs.

As always, I am grateful for your ongoing support and cherish our fabulous community!

Attendance

You will find an update on your child’s attendance at the top of their dispositional report.  As reference, 90% is counted as regular attendance.  Thank you for getting your child to school this term, attendance really does make a massive difference to their progress socially, emotionally and academically.

Reporting

Your child’s teacher will be sending home your child’s dispositional report over this week.  This report is a summary of your child as a learner and the intention is for it to be read in conjunction with all of the other learning summaries that get sent home in reading, writing and maths.  Teachers put a massive amount of work into all of the different ways we report to you, please take the time to read these and give them a like or a comment so we know they have been read.

Pick Up Times

Please make sure you pick your child up by 3.20pm each day.  Teachers have other commitments to get to and it is not fair to expect them to supervise your children at this time.  If children are not picked up by this time, we will take them up to after school care so they can be supervised and they will be sitting outside of the nest waiting for you.

If you are struggling to get to school at this time of the day because of other commitments, I encourage you to make use of the after school care that is on site.

Fundraising Term Two

Thank you for supporting our Term Two fundraising.  All funds raised go towards funding learning support and we aim to raise at least $35 000 over the year to ensure we can cover these costs.

Chocolate Fundraiser

Any outstanding money can be paid via cash, eftpos or online. Kaurihohore Board of Trustees 12-3093-0200709-00

We still have quite a few boxes to sell.  We will be selling these at other fundraisers, but are more than happy if anyone wants more boxes to sell.  You can chat to Dianne about this.

Matariki Celebrations and End of Term Awards

We will be holding our Matariki celebration This Thursday at 1.45pm under the canopy.  Joby Hopa will be coming along like last year and storytelling with the children around Matariki and our place.  We'd love you to join us in this celebration.

If you have ordered a pizza, or just want to come along and share kai with your child, please feel free to do so.  Eating time starts at 1.15pm.   We are hoping for fine weather, so you can find a comfy place to put a picnic blanket or similar to sit and eat.

We will also be holding our end of term assembly from 2.15pm on the last day of school for the term, the 5th of July.

As usual this will be a time to hand our class awards, acknowledge our ‘top’ runners from the colour run and announce our Citizen of the Term.  As always, you are welcome to come and join us to celebrate our children and their achievements.

Contacting Us

You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab  ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message.  Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have  time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm.  We will respond the next day as soon as we can.  Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.
