Week Eight

Kaurihohore School Week Eight, Term Three 2024

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.

Respect - Empathy - Kindness

He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai

“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”

Kia ora e te whānau,

We are quickly approaching the end of term, it is great to see the sun beginning to shine a little more.

We had a great ERO visit.  They were blown away by the children and our philosophy for learning and development.  They were particularly impressed with our inclusion strategies and noted that children do well as ‘their own unique selves.’

We expect a draft report soon and will share the final report with you when it is published.

Last week we had a group of children represent us at the Whangārei cross country.  They represented our school proudly.  We will hopefully get official places and certificates through in time to acknowledge them all at our end of year awards assembly.  A massive thank you to our team of helpers who ran the BBQ on the day.

Our school disco was also a great success.  Thank you to the parents and staff who made this possible, in particular Maria Benson who ensured this was a great night for all.

Car Park Safety

We have had several near misses in the car park recently, with children only just avoiding being hit. Please ensure children follow these rules to keep them safe and make sure you are actively supervising them.  These near misses have not been our youngest children, they have been our older children that should know better.

*Children must walk along the yellow lines to their car.

*Children need to have their belt on before the car moves off and if they need help getting into the car, it is easier for you to park.

*Children must wait for you to collect them, before they cross the crossing.

*Children must walk with you and not behind cars.  Using the path or the grassed area to access vehicles.  Please talk to them about the fact that they can not be seen behind a car, the driver simply won't know they are there.

*Children must not be riding their wheels (scooters, ripsticks, roller skates, bikes) anywhere near the car park.

We know that sometimes the rules feel like overkill, but they are there to keep everyone safe.   As I say to the children, I don’t want to be visiting them in their hospital bed or worse.

Empty Classroom Day

This is on the 24th of September (Tuesday) on this day the school self-directs their own play outside.  There are always jobs to do around the school as well, so if you have any time available to come in and move bark or do some weeding, we would really appreciate it.

Awards Assembly

This will be held at 2.10pm under the canopy on the last day of this term.

Trophies

Please send back by the end of this term any trophies that your child won at the end of 2023.  This will allow us time to get them engraved for 2024.

Teacher Only Day

This will be held on the 21st of October in the second week of Term 4.   School is closed for children on this day.  This is an allocated day from the Ministry of Education for teachers to work through delivery of the new curriculum.

Life Education Caravan - Promoting healthy physical, social and emotional practices for children

Harold and Nadine will be with us the first week of Term 4.  Each class will get two visits each.  Your child’s teacher will share with you the topic of discussion.  We ask for a  contribution of $2, $4 or $6  towards this visit.  This can be paid via Kindo, or via the school office.  We kindly accept any level of contribution you can give to help us cover this cost.

Calf Club/Flower Day

This will be held on the 23rd of October.  If your child will be entering a calf, lamb or goat, please get them to collect a registration form from the office.

More information about this day will be sent home in the first week back of term as all classes will be creating items to be judged.

We are currently looking for helpers to run a sausage sizzle from 10.30 - 1.30 on the day.  Please let us know if you would be able to help, even if you are able to do a slot over this time and work in with others so you can go and view your children’s items.

Pizza Day

Pizza day is next Thursday, all orders need to be in by this Sunday.

Halloween Fundraiser

Tickets are now on sale for this event, but we will need loads of help to make this event a success.  Please look out for posts on facebook and on seesaw to find out ways you can help.  This is a fundraiser that raises a lot for our school, but without a lot of help it is just not possible.

Out of Zone Places 2025

These positions opened on the 2nd of September.  If your child will be starting with us next year and you are out of our zone, you need to put in an application.  We account for siblings in our numbers, but without the application for our records, we can not award the position.

If you know of other families that are wanting to apply for a position in 2025, please encourage them to do so, even if the position is not available, we can add them to our waitlist via that process.  Applications close on the 15th of October.  Please note that this is the second day of Term 4, so it is easier to submit the application now.
