Welcome Back
Hi everyone,
The holidays are now drawing to a close. We go back on the 7th, which is next Tuesday. We go back on the latest date possible as we don't have teacher only days during the year.
We are really looking forward to catching up with everyone again and seeing your children's smiling faces. Undoubtedly some will be feeling quite nervous about coming back to school, but we are sure once they are back it will be like they never went on holiday (and that is just the teachers.)
We have quite a few new starters to our school, at all levels, please make them welcome as starting at a new school in a new community can be very difficult.
This year we will continue to be a KiVa school. KiVa simply means against bullying, and that sums us up pretty well. We made huge progress last year and survey results reflect some hugely positive benefits for our children. The KiVa programme last year was funded through your school donation, we think this was a great use of these funds. Kindness and the act of simply being kind is so important. We want to continue to build on our intention of 'kindness first' this year to help to truly and genuinely embed this into our school community. This does not only include children and how the relate to each other, but all of us. There can be no better legacy then simply being remembered for being kind.

To re-launch KiVa and our Kindness intention we will be holding a Kindness day, we ask that on Friday the 17th of February children come to school wearing a rainbow of colours. Children will take part in a range of activities linked with KiVa and kindness on this day.
Along with this we think that this book explains kindness to children beautifully and some classes will be using this idea further in their classes this year to help explain and teach kindness and empathy. It is a great book for all ages.
We want Kaurihohore to truly be a happy place for everyone to be, adults and children alike, you can support us in our endeavours by modelling these behaviours for your children.
There are two important dates coming up quite quickly in the term. The whole school beach picnic will be held on Wednesday the 22nd of February (week three) and parent/teacher interviews will be held on Thursday the 2nd of March.
Camps/Overnight stays will be happening this term for all classes, look out for these dates in the school newsletter.
If you have not let Chrissie know how you would like to receive the newsletter this year (hardcopy, email, via blog) please email her on admin@kaurihohoreschool.co.nz
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday the 7th, try to get children to school by 8.50am so they have time to settle in, they will also need their school stationery from day one.
Please remember any children at school before 8am will need to go to the library first.
