Kaurihohore School Week One, Term Three 2025
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai
“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”
Kia ora e te whānau,
Nau mai hoki mai, welcome back!
A big welcome to whānau that are joining our school this term, we know that you will enjoy this place as much as we do.
This term will again be a busy one and it is likely to be quite wet. Please ensure children dress for the weather and bring a change of clothes each day.
Lost property has been an absolute battle over the last couple of years and last term is a great example of that, we start the year with a full container of clothes, despite putting them on display for the children to collect throughout the term and in the last week. Children just don’t seem to care about their belongings or even recognise them. We can not reduce this problem without your support. Please name your child’s clothing and check each day if they have brought it all home with them. Most importantly make sure they recognise their clothing and understand that we need to value what we have. To reduce this problem, we must make the children responsible, please don’t rush to replace items that are lost, children need to understand that replacing items is not a solution to the problem. This fits beautifully with our school focus right now on waste. Our throw away society is certainly causing huge problems for our planet right now and looking after our belongings and valuing what we have is a great way to start turning this around.
As always, we are grateful for your support.

2026-2028 Strategic Plan
*We would love more voices, please complete the survey, even if you are happy with the direction we have been heading, your voices will inform the next three years of development. The survey will take you five to ten minutes, it is short, just two questions, your social and emotional aspirations for your child and your academic aspirations for your child.
We are coming towards the end of our last strategic plan and it is time to look back at what we have achieved so far and forwards to what we want to achieve. Matariki is a great time to do this.
In our 2024 - 2025 plan we have been working towards embedding our wellbeing curriculum, embedding structured literacy and working towards structured maths and growing our knowledge of our place and our stories.
As a first step in setting our strategic plan the BOT would like your input. You can share your ideas with us using this form.
Mana Ake
Our Kaimahi Lynette is working with each class this year with a focus on Ti Rakau. Classes had their first session yesterday and they loved it. We made changes to this approach based on the voices of our children who expressed an interest in learning more traditional Māori games and waiata during this time, with a view to everyone being involved, rather than just groups of children.
Whānau Conferences - Bookings Via Skool Loop
On the 31st of July 2025, we will hold parent teacher conferences.
This will be an early school finish, with children picked up at 2.00pm and conferences starting from 2.20pm. This is to allow us to get through all the conferences in one day. If you are unable to make this date, but want an appointment at another date, you need to contact your child’s teacher directly.
Whānau conferences are a time to catch up with your child’s teacher about how they are going at school.
Children in years 4 - 6 are welcome to come along to these conferences, but they are not required to come and you may prefer not to bring them.
Children are welcome to play outside while they are waiting for you. We do provide a lot of information with you on seesaw, so you may feel that you do not need to come and see your child’s teacher, this is absolutely fine, your child’s teacher will specifically request you come if they feel there is something that needs to be talked about.
The interview is a very short amount of time, so please come ready with the specific queries you would like to talk about.
Bookings will close on 25th July 2025 and must be made via Skool Loop, which is super easy to download. Teachers do not have access to this app, so if you are unable to use it or need to cancel an appointment, you will need to check in with Shelley in the school office.
If you are unable to make this date, please check in with your child’s teacher.
Curriculum Phases
Last term you received your child’s summary report. This report is intended to be read in conjunction with all the information you receive in real time via seesaw. At the top of your child’s report there were descriptors (needs support, working towards, proficient and exceeding.) These descriptors are draft descriptors that the Ministry currently has in place and it is likely another will be added. These descriptors are based on your child’s progress to achieving the designated part of the phase for their year level at the end of the year.
As we have previously said, the new curriculum has raised the bar on expected achievement , meaning those children that perhaps would have been considered ‘at’ are now needing extra support. We started working with this curriculum in draft last year and are still developing an understanding of the requirements within it ourselves.
I will share an outline of the skills within each section of the phases on seesaw for maths, reading and writing so that you know what is actually being expected.
Meaning of Descriptors:
If your child is recorded as needing support or progressing towards, your input at home is really important, providing extra practice will greatly assist your child.
Kamo Intermediate Enrolments
These will open tomorrow. Online enrolments only via this link https://enrolments.linc-ed.com/apply/NZ/1029 You can find more information on their school website.
The Ned Show
Next week on Thursday we welcome a wonderful show to our school. It is called Ned’s Resiliency Ride. Ned stands for: never give up, encourage others, do your best.
This show is free to our children thanks to another school selling enough yo-yos to fund our show. Following the show we will also have yo-yos to sell to hopefully pay this forward to another school. The show looks amazing and we are really looking forward to it!
Cross Country - 13th August
Our cross country will be held this term. It is a great idea to get training now. More information will come home about this soon. This even starts around 9.15am and runs until approximately 11am.

Our target this year is to raise $40 000 to cover learning support needs. This learning support pays to ensure we have people on the ground that can give our children the support they need, when they need it. Unfortunately this is not currently funded by the Government.

We will continue to sell these towards our fundraising target during Term 3 and 4.

These will be held on the 7th of August and the 4th of September. You can order through KINDO, look out on facebook or seesaw for information on ordering.
Disco - 22nd August 5pm - 7pm
Tickets will be $8, this is a great fundraiser for the school.
Getting Ready For Halloween - 31/10/25
Please look out for communications around ways you can help us. Halloween might not be an event you celebrate (like many of us) but it is a great fundraiser and it gives those families that like to celebrate it, somewhere safe to go.
Start planning your costumes and clearing your calendar – this is our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year, and it's all for an awesome cause: Learning support at Kaurihohore School!
Event details will be shared right here on our Facebook page, so make sure you're following us to stay in the spooky loop!
If you'd like to help out, flick a message to Chelsea Woods – we’d love your support!
Sponsorship letters will be coming home soon. If you or someone you know (a business, a boss, or your spooky aunty with a heart of gold ) might be keen to support, we’d really appreciate it!
Thanks for being part of our awesome school whānau – let the Halloween countdown begin!
Interested in being a scarer on the day? I would love your help. From 4pm - 5.30pm we will be running ‘kid friendly scaring’ . This is a great time for older children or teenagers to help out who would like to add a bit of atmosphere by dressing up as fairy tale characters and interacting with our visitors. From 5.30pm onwards it will be big kid friendly. This is when we will need to bring our ‘expert’ scarers out, the more scarers we can have wandering around adding to the atmosphere, the better the night will be. Please contact me (Leslee) if you would like to join my scaring team and are able to be on scaring duty from 5.30pm - 7.30pm.
Contacting Us
You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message.
