Week Eight News

Kaurihohore School Week Eight, Term Three News 2022

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.

Respect - Empathy - Kindness

He whakatauki. Ehara tāku toa i te toa takitahi. Engari, he toa takitini.

Success is not the work of one but the work of many.

Kia ora koutou,

The weeks are ticking by quickly and it is hard to believe that we are halfway through week eight, with only two and a half more weeks of school left.

Over this term and next term you will notice comments coming home via seesaw about your child’s progress in the areas of maths, reading and writing.  These comments will give you an idea of your child’s current achievement and their next steps.  We report to you throughout the year via seesaw and urge you to request an appointment with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would simply like to know more.  We are more than happy to talk with you and like to do it at the times it is most helpful to you.  A quick message via seesaw is a good way to catch up. Please remember however that teachers, like you, have families and deserve down time, so try not to message outside of 8am - 5pm.  If messages come in late, we will attend to them the next day.

At the end of this term you will receive via seesaw an updated comment based on Term 3.  These comments are based around your child as a learner.  We appreciate it if you just indicate you have seen this with a like, or a comment.  I am sure you can appreciate the amount of work teachers put into their comments on progress and into their reporting comments.  These are often done on our weekends or in our evenings.  Like any job, it is nice to feel appreciated for the work that goes into it.

September 26th

As you will be aware, the government has announced a one off public holiday to mark the passing of the Queen.  School will be closed on this day.

Changes to COVID settings

You will be aware that we are now not operating under a traffic light system.  This means masks are not required inside and only those with COVID need to isolate.

If you have a household member with COVID this means you can still send your child to school however please:

1)Let us know out of courtesy that someone in your household has COVID.  This means if we spot symptoms we will be more diligent in sending your child home.

2)Test your child to make sure they do not have COVID, you can get tests from the office.

3)Monitor for symptoms, it is usually between day 5-10 that another member of your family will become sick.  If in doubt, please keep your child home.

The Nest/Te Kōhanga

Thank you to our ‘grandparent’ helpers who have signed on to help us and our children form relationships and cope with big feelings.  If you know of anyone else who would like to be involved we now have a bit of a timetable.  You can email Chelsea chelsea.woods@kaurihohoreschool.co.nz

Drop off/Pick Up

Please do not drop off children before 7.45am and make sure they are picked up by 3.15pm in the afternoon.

Fundraisers - Sponsored Run

This year our 'Sponsored Run' will take place on Tuesday 8th November

Sponsorship forms will get sent home with the tamariki today. Any amount would be greatly appreciated!

We are aiming to raise around $3000 from this fundraiser, so please get behind us and encourage children to seek sponsorship on this day.   This fundraising will go towards the $12 000 we still need to raise for the curriculum, so we are hoping to make a massive dent in this big number!

Calendar Art

Calendar art orders close Thursday, September 22nd...NO ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE!

**If your child is away for an extended time, please check if they have completed an artwork BEFORE ordering.

Seeds

We raised $886 from this fundraiser, thank you for your support.  Seeds will be here soon for pick up.

Pizza Fundraiser

Sorry we don’t yet know what was raised from this, but massive thank you to Renee Pilkington for organising this.  It was certainly a bumper order this time!

Halloween Fundraiser

Our very small fundraising group (ten people) have the lofty aim of holding a Halloween walk on the 31st of October between 5pm and 7pm.  As we fundraise as a school community, we need everyone’s support in any way that you can, this is too big an event for just ten people.

Things we will need help with will be...

-Sponsorship if you would like to donate and help with cost if decorations, food and drink

-We would like to build a maze on the field hopefully using scaffolding if you know anyone?  And silage paper if anyone has some?

-Baking

-Hot dog cooking

-Food selling

-Decoration set up

-Scary spookers this could be older kids or parents

-clean up

Please contact Kim Christensen if you are able to help, or comment on her facebook post.  You could also pass your contact details onto Dianne and she will give these to Kim.

Every child benefits from our fundraising, so we need everyone to help in any way they can with our fundraisers.  Thank you!

These will be judged along with all other items on the day at 10.30am.  Please do not take these items away until they have been viewed after judging.

These Items will be made on the day: Please note, some items require things to be provided from home:

Please do not send children to school with completed items, these need to be done at school or it is unfair to others!

Aqua Jar - Completed at school, bring an appropriate flower to stick to the lid and a clean jar without a label if you have one.  - (rooms 6 - 10 only)

Paper Vase of Flowers and Headband  (Room 1 - 5 only)- Bring flowers appropriate to stick to paper with long stalks. -

Spring Craft - class choice (Classroom teacher will let you know if anything is needed from home.)

Buttonhole - (Room 6 - 10 only) Bring a flower and foliage that are suitable for a

buttonhole

Miniature Garden - (Room 6-10 only)- Accessories from home, will be discussed in class.

Vaseline saucer

(Children will need to bring a saucer or plastic lid and some flowers that have good petals.  They will also need vaseline if they have any, but otherwise classes will provide this)

Children need to take this home at the end of the day.

The items highlighted in yellow, need to be brought along on the day in a named plastic bag, container or bucket.  If you have extra flowers, you don’t mind sharing, that would be great as some children won’t have any.

Organisation of the day:

9 - 10.30pm - Completion of items  (10.30 judging begins)

10.30 - Ag day animals start to be judged out on the field.

Food for thought...

What we model in our actions towards others, is what our children see and will ultimately copy.

Noho ora mai - stay well, look after yourself and look out for others!
