Kaurihohore School Week Five, Term Four 2025

Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
Kia ora e te whānau,
Our Halloween event was absolutely fantastic! This event would not be possible without all the wonderful helpers that give up their time to make this event what it is.
There has been an official thank you post on our facebook page, if you were missed out, please know how grateful we are. I wanted to do some special mentions.
Firstly to Chelsea and Kim with the assistance of Anahera, for pulling this event together with dogged determination and organisational mastery. While the event itself is over in a matter of hours, the work behind the scenes to make it possible, goes on over the year prior.
To our food team, you were incredible, such a small group, but wow, what an effort! We had so many compliments about the food!
To all of those that came along during the day to set up and to those that stayed with us late into the evening to pack up.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated goods and money to make the event possible and maximise the profit.
To the staff, without you, we simply would not have had enough hands on deck.
Of course a big thank you to our sponsors!
This event is a huge one for our school and we hope that we will have even more helpers next year!
It is a sad reality that we need to run events such as these, so that we provide funding to pay for teacher aides. Fundraising like this, benefits our whole school.
If you are interested in knowing more about the reality of learning support and just how hard it is to get right now, you are welcome to read and share an open letter I have shared on my Number Agent Facebook page. Learning support and the absolute lack of it, is a key feature of our current negotiations.

Athletics
The year 3 - 6 athletics will be held on the 12th of November between 9am and 11am. The year 0-2 athletics will then follow this at 11.30am.
You are welcome to come along on the day, if you do, please wear a hat.
Teachers Only Day
This will be held on the 17th of November. This day is allocated by the government for curriculum development. Obviously with the ‘refreshed, refreshed’ curriculum that we did not know was coming, we will have a lot of work to do getting our head around any changes. School will be closed for instruction on this day.
Swimming
Please ensure that children have their togs at school on their allocated swimming days. Swimming is part of the curriculum and it is expected that all children swim unless they have a reason they should not be swimming.
Hats
In Term 1 and 4, the expectation is that all children will wear hats when outside. Hats must have a full brim or a flap at the back. We recommend having a school hat that gets left in your child’s bag. If children do not have a hat, they will have to play in the courtyard area of the school. Please support us by ensuring your child knows the importance of wearing a hat.
Responding To Behaviour
We have procedures to deal with behaviour and wellbeing at Kaurihohore. Wrapped up within these are how we deal with any behaviour that could be classified as bullying. You can find the link. You can find the link to our documents here. Alternatively you can go to our school blog site and click on the link that is called procedures for behaviour.
If something is going on for your child that you don’t think we know about, please let us know. Communication is key and we can not help with problems that we do not know about.
Out of Zone Positions
Positions for new entrant children for 2026 have now all been filled. However, we still have positions available for other year levels in the school, particularly year 2 and 4 for 2026. If you know of anyone thinking of enrolling, tell them to get in touch with us. If you know of anyone moving into our zone, encourage them to get in touch as soon as possible. All of this information helps us in the confirmation of classes for 2026.
Fundraising
At our recent school board meeting, fundraising was discussed. We know this can be a very frustrating aspect of being part of our school.
It was felt that we should put out there more often the reason for all this fundraising.
I wanted to point out that this tab is on our blog and answers most of our FAQ about fundraising, please have a read and I hope you find it useful.
Kaurihohore School is a great place to be, it is full of wonderful wairua, thanks to the adults and children who are part of our school currently, those who have gone before us and those who will come after us. We may not have all the fancy bells and whistles, but what we do have is something very special.
Frequently asked fundraising questions
Our target this year is to raise $40 000 to cover learning support needs. This learning support serves to ensure we have people on the ground outside of classroom teachers that can give our children the support they need, when they need it. Unfortunately this is not currently funded by the Government.
Total raised in Term 1 was- $5281.20
In Term 2 we raised: $13 001.76
In Term 3 - $9803.80
Total so far - $28 086.76 (Term one two and three)
Term 4 Fundraisers-
Christmas Raffle - raffle tickets will be coming home soon, we have some awesome prizes to be won.
Dates for 2026
First day back 3rd February. Last day of the school year 15th December.
