Kaurihohore School Week Three, Term Two 2025
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai
“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”
Kia ora e te whānau,
Despite the up and down weather, we have had a very settled couple of weeks at school so far.
A massive thank you to Paul Allen, Holly Lucas, James Lucas, Belinda Loring, Ben Connor, Lynette Hoskin and Jason Gregory for getting that massive pile of post peelings moved. We really appreciate you!
This year is a BOT election year. I will share a pdf via seesaw about being on the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees supports me to guide the direction of our school and ensure efficient policies and procedures are in place. Property, finances and Health and Safety are big areas that the BOT have a role in.
Being on the BOT often seems daunting, but it really isn’t, if you are considering putting your hand up to be a board member, but would like to know more, you could talk to one of our current members (Dave Pilkington, Holly Lucas, Arla Kerr, Bob Newport) or come and have a quick chat to me.
An election date is still to be set, but will be held in September of this year. Our new board will take office in Term 4 of this year.

Support Staff Week
This week is support staff week. Our support staff are integral to the running of our school and often work behind the scenes to ensure everything is going smoothly. They form a group of trusted adults for our children and we couldn’t be without them!
Support staff in schools are underpaid and overworked and truly work from the heart. We are so very grateful for everything that they do. Thank you Haylee, Dianne, Chelsea and Shelley, you are awesome. Please take your time to show your gratitude to these wonderful human beings this week.
Sponsored Colour Run - 11th June
Please don’t forget to get your child signed up for this. You can set up a student profile page by going to www.schoolfunrun.co.nz. You can then share this link via social media and SMS. If you are given cash, you can also bring this to the office and it will be added to your child’s account. This is a really good fundraiser for our school and it is a LOT of fun too!
Children start running/walking around the bike track at 1.30pm and the school will assemble on the courts at 1.20pm. You are welcome to come along and run/walk with your children.
Pizza Fundraiser - 29th May
This is now open on Kindo and orders close on Sunday the 25th of May.
Attendance
In Term 1 65% of our children attended school regularly, this is down greatly on the 76% of children that attended regularly in Term 1 2024. Regularly means that they attend 90% of the time, this means they miss fewer than five days over a term.
27% of absences were classed as unjustified in Term One, with holidays making up 12% of that.
When you look at the graph below, you can see average attendance is generally good across Monday-Thursday, but drops greatly on a Friday. While Fridays may seem more relaxed, they are still important school days and children are missing pieces of their programme that do impact on their learning both academic and social/emotional. Please have your child at school on a Friday unless they are ill or have another good reason to be away.
If we are concerned about your child’s attendance, we will touch base with you via email to see what can be done to ensure your child is attending regularly.
I will share our policy on attendance via seesaw.
Police Education visit - Keeping Ourselves Safe - 19th - 23rd May
In week four we have two police education officers working in our school to deliver elements of the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme. Rooms 1 - 5 will be covering My Body is My Own (physically me, touch)
Room 6 - 9 will be covering :
*The real world (safe and unsafe behaviours)
*Digital safety (being safe online)
*About abuse (knowing what it is and how to get help)
You can find all resources and overviews by visiting www.police.govt.nz and searching Keeping Ourselves Safe.
You are welcome to chat to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Fundraising
Our target this year is to raise $40 000 to cover learning support needs. This learning support pays to ensure we have people on the ground that can give our children the support they need, when they need it. Unfortunately this is not currently funded by the Government.
Total raised so far - $5281.20 - thank you so much for your support!
Term 2 Fundraisers-
*Sponsored Colour Run - information has been sent home about this. This will be held on the 11th of June, all money raised go towards our fantastic support staff. Information has gone home via seesaw, you can set up a student profile page by going to www.schoolfunrun.co.nz. You can then share this link via social media and SMS. If you are given cash, you can also bring this to the office and it will be added to your child’s account.
*Chocolate - chocolates are now available to sell, please pick up the boxes you would like from the school office. Once sold, please send money back to the office. This was a great fundraiser for us last year and goes a very long way towards achieving that target. Again, all money raised goes towards funding for learning support that is not currently funded by the MOE.
*Pizza day fundraisers - this is now open on Kindo, this will be held on the 29th of May and closes off for payment on Sunday the 25th of May.
Getting Ready For Halloween
Our Halloween event has become a big fundraiser for the school over the last couple of years. This is very much a community driven event and it takes a lot of us to make it a success. You don’t need to be into Halloween to support this event as there is a lot of work that can be done behind the scenes. We will be holding an initial meeting on Tuesday the 20th of May at 3pm and we would love to see you. If you are unable to make the meeting, you can email Chelsea at chelsea.woods@kaurihohoreschool.co.nz or comment on her facebook post.
Thank you for your hard work in making these fundraisers successful! We truly appreciate your support.
