Kaurihohore School Week Seven, Term Two 2025
Manaaki te katoa - be kind to all.
Respect - Empathy - Kindness
He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai
“If kindness is sown, then kindness is what you shall receive”
Kia ora e te whānau,
Well the term is rushing on and it is hard to believe it is week seven already. This term is just a nine week term (don’t ask me why) which means we really are close to the end of term. We are well and truly in Winter now, please ensure that children have a change of clothes at school, our kids love the mud and the rain and it can be difficult to keep them clean and dry.
Our sponsored colour run is on today the school will assemble at 1.20pm on the lower court.
This Friday is Yellow day. All funds raised will go to our Life Education Trust. If we are lucky, we may even get a visit from Harold himself. Children can wear yellow (or not) or even dress up a little like a giraffe. There will be prizes for best dressed, but the main point of the day is to raise money, so please send along a gold coin donation.
Next week classes will be taking part in Matariki based activities, each class has adopted a star to learn more about and will spend some time learning about this star and Matariki in general. We hope to take some photos of what is happening and share these with you.
On the 25th we have an empty classroom day. We did not have this last term as we went to the beach as a school. We have our fingers crossed for fine weather, if the weather does not allow us to be outside, teachers will think of activities that can be run inside that are alternate to the normal class programme. This day is a way to celebrate play, which we know is so important at all ages.
In the last week of term, you will receive the first installment of your child’s written report. We focus on dispositions in this written report, but there will be an indication at the top of the report around how your child is progressing towards the goals of the new curriculum. Over each term your child’s teacher will send home written summaries in reading, writing and maths, please look out for these as they give you more information about where your child is at and how you can help.
A massive thank you to everyone who provided baking and drinks for the Winter sports that did not go ahead. Thank you so much to Vikki and Cathy and their small band of helpers for ensuring this effort didn’t go to waste by selling it all at school.
A huge thank you to our wonderful team of bakers and helpers who gave up a day off to sell food at the local market day at the hall. You are awesome.

As always, thank you everyone for your ongoing support. If we all do what we can at home and at school, our children will be successful.

2026-2028 Strategic Plan
We are coming towards the end of our last strategic plan and it is time to look back at what we have achieved so far and forwards to what we want to achieve. Matariki is a great time to do this.
In our 2024 - 2025 plan we have been working towards embedding our wellbeing curriculum, embedding structured literacy and working towards structured maths and growing our knowledge of our place and our stories.
As a first step in setting our strategic plan the BOT would like your input. You can share your ideas with us using this form.

Yellow Day - Friday the 13th of June
Children are encouraged to wear yellow or dress as a giraffe on this day. All funds raised will go towards the Life Education Trust that does amazing things in our community. We might even be lucky enough to have a visit from Harold.

Mana Ake
Our Kaimahi Lynette has been working with groups of children this year. They are currently working in tuakana teina groupings learning more about Matariki. Last year Lynette led our Kapa Haka roopu. This year the children have been asked how they would like this to look and there have been some changes made. Across the school our children voiced a keenness to take part in waiata but also wanted to take part in other activities more broadly. The expressed an interest in learning more about traditional games and crafts as well as waiata. From next term, each class will get their own slot with Lynette who will plan sessions with this voice in mind. We look forward to seeing how this goes.
Empty Classroom Day
This will be held on the 25th of June (Wednesday.) On this day, the whole school plays outside. Children are welcome to come with whatever they need to direct their play for the day. Please send along a change of clothes and a towel and ensure they have something warm to wear. If the weather does not permit us being outside, teachers will plan alternative activities inside of the classrooms.
End of Term Awards
This will be held on the last day of term. The school will assemble under the canopy and we will begin at 2.10pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Fundraising
Our target this year is to raise $40 000 to cover learning support needs. This learning support pays to ensure we have people on the ground that can give our children the support they need, when they need it. Unfortunately this is not currently funded by the Government.
Total raised in Term 1 was- $5281.20.
So far in Term 2 we have raised:
Winter sports food - $1027.05
Community hall food selling - $445
We are looking forward to adding to this total with the sponsored run today!
Term 2 Fundraisers-
*Sponsored Colour Run - information has been sent home about this. This will be held on the 11th of June, all money raised go towards our fantastic support staff. Information has gone home via seesaw, you can set up a student profile page by going to www.schoolfunrun.co.nz. You can then share this link via social media and SMS. If you are given cash, you can also bring this to the office and it will be added to your child’s account. You can still collect money after the event and have a week to get it in to us.
*Chocolate - chocolates are now available to sell, please pick up the boxes you would like from the school office. Once sold, please send money back to the office. This was a great fundraiser for us last year and goes a very long way towards achieving that target. Again, all money raised goes towards funding for learning support that is not currently funded by the MOE.
*Pizza day fundraisers - pizza lunch will be on the 26th of June. Orders are open now and will close on the 22nd.
Getting Ready For Halloween
Please look out for communications around ways you can help us. Halloween might not be an event you celebrate (like many of us) but it is a great fundraiser and it gives those families that like to celebrate it, somewhere safe to go. You can get in touch with Chelsea to find out how you might be able to help in the lead up to the day, on the day, or after the day. This has become massive and we really need all hands on deck if possible.
Contacting Us
You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab ‘our staff,’ however the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message. Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm. We will respond the next day as soon as we can. Please refrain from using Facebook messenger, or our personal phone numbers to contact us.
