“Share your gifts with the world”

Kia ora koutou,

Nau mai, haere mai!  Welcome to a new school year!

It is fantastic to see old and new faces back today, so many smiles mixed with a few nerves to start the year.  I walked around classrooms this morning and was struck by how settled and happy the tamariki were.  Kudos to the teachers for making happiness and safety a priority, right from the beginning.

We have quite a few new families that have started with us today, a massive welcome to you, we hope that you and your children feel right at home here.

It was great to be able to open the school today as planned after the weather turned in our favour overnight.  Thank you for being patient with us while we waited to see what the best course of action would be.  It is always such a hard decision to make, but opening the school comes down to three things, can our families get here safely, can our staff get here safely and are the school grounds and buildings a safe place for children to be.  Luckily for us, we were able to answer a big āe to all of these questions.  We will never close lightly, so if we do, you will know it is for good reason.

We are looking forward to a great year, please check on dates below to see what is coming up very soon!

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata

What is the most important thing in this world?  It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

Contacting Us

You can find all staff emails on our blog page under the tab our staff.  However the best way to contact your child’s teacher is via seesaw message.  Teachers will endeavour to answer when they have  time during the day, however please don’t expect replies to messages or emails after 5pm.  We will respond the next day as soon as we can.

Our school blog is kaurihohoreschool.blogspot.com

Office emails are:

Chrissie - admin@kaurihohoreschoo.co.nz

Dianne - reception@kaurihohoreschool.co.nz

Chelsea/Enrolments - kaurienrolments@kaurihohoreschool.co.nz

Enrolments

If you know of families living in our school zone that will be coming to our school, but may not have let us know, please tell them to let us know urgently.  We have a few out of zone requests at the moment, but are hesitant to fill these, without being able to accurately predict any in zone growth.  They can email Chelsea at kaurienrolments@gmail.com, thank you!

Reporting

Last year I advised you that we intend to slightly change reporting this year.  This year you can expect two comments in the year on seesaw that will let you know about academic progress specifically.  These comments will be in literacy and mathematics.  You can also expect a paragraph in Term 2 and Term 4 that gives you more information about your child as a learner and in Term 3 we will be holding face to face interviews again.  It is useful to save this information when it comes home via seesaw so that you can find it later on.

Please make good use of seesaw, it is our main way of communicating with you about your child’s learning.  As always if you have a question or concern, don’t hesitate to see your child’s teacher in the first instance.

Beach Trip

On the 17th of February we plan to go to the beach as a whole school.  Please watch out for the form coming home today and get it back ASAP.  This trip requires a quick turn around for forms as Dianne will need to know if we have enough transport to go.  To make this trip possible, we need transport and more importantly we need supervision.  We can not take a bus, as this reduces the amount of adults we have on site.

Attendance

If your child will not be at school, you need to advise the office.  You can phone us and leave a message, you can email kauriabsences@gmail.com you can text 027 502 9974 or you can use the school loop app.  Please don’t email Chrissie or Dianne on their other emails, if they are away, we will not get these.

Regular attendance is vital for children’s learning and social development.  When they are away frequently it makes it hard for them to catch up and it can also make friendships difficult as others can not rely on them being here.  You must let us know when they are away, and we need a reason for this absence for our records, it takes Dianne a long time ringing everyone in the morning if you have not let us know, and I am sure you can appreciate she has a lot of other things she could be doing.

Drop off and Pick Ups

Please don’t drop children before 7.45am at the earliest and pick them up by 3.20pm at the very latest.
