Cross Country

SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY - OUTLINE OF THE DAY

On Wednesday 12th August at 9.50am the school will assemble on the courts.

All races other than the Year 0/1 races go outside of the school grounds. It

is very important that cars are parked and not exiting the school during the

events. Times on these events are approximate and we often run ahead of

time, please do not expect office staff to know which races have run or are

due to run, your best bet is to be there during the block of your child’s race

e.g. if they are in year 3, come for the morning block before morning tea. The

block of junior races are often over very quickly. This year we do have the

luxury of a postponement date, so if it is raining we will cancel and hold it on

Friday 14th August.

10.00 - New Entrants 2014 (Girls/Boys) - 1 lap around field

10.10 - Year 1’s Girls/Boys– 2 laps around field

10.20 - Year 2 Girls/Boys - 1 lap around school

10.40 - Year 3 Girls/Boys- course running up to 100km sign

11.00 - Morning tea

11.25 - Year 4-5-6 Fun run (one lap of the school) girls and

boy’s all in together, no places will be given for this race.

11.35 - Year 4 competitive (Girls/Boys) Trophy for Junior Champ

12.00 - Year 5 competitive (Girls/Boys) Trophy for Middle Champ

12.20 - Year 6 competitive (Girls/Boys) Trophy for Senior Champ

CROSS COUNTRY DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE

The PSG will be having a sausage sizzle (at lunchtime) and muffins (at morning tea time) on Cross Country Day – Wednesday 12^th August.  Sausages and muffins will sell for $2.00 each.  Please support us!

Gala Day - Animal Entries

2015 AGRICULTURAL/RURAL GALA DAY

WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 17TH 

Each year a special highlight of the Kaurihohore calendar is Agricultural Day.  Last year we combined this with our gala and it turned out to be a lovely rural day.  We consider it important for a number of reasons.  It is part of being in a rural school and the Board and Staff are committed to keeping the rural character of the school.  It is held on a Saturday so we can get the maximum participation from children and community members.

 Children bring a pet lamb, kid or calf that they have reared to parade and compete in various classes.  This is held prior to our 'rural' gala.

The Board and the school community wishes to encourage as many families as possible to enter an animal for this section of the day, and if you have not considered keeping an animal, or have thought about it briefly and felt daunted by the prospect, we invite you to take a moment to read on.

 Rearing an animal is a wonderful experience for a child and is a focus for its own learning and development.  They will learn how to care for their animal and train it.  They will learn personal skills such as commitment, time management and patience.  This can be a greatly rewarding experience for the child, seeing their animal respond to the care and attention they give it.

 ANIMAL HANDLERS

•    Children are encouraged to raise, feed and care for a lamb, kid or calf.

•    Animals are eligible if they are born between 1 July and 31 August of this year.

•    Calves are judged for leading, rearing (child’s effort) and beef or dairy type.

•    Lambs/kids are judged on leading, calling and rearing.

•    Any competitor may compete at the Whangarei Group Calf Club day at Barge Park, Maunu, usually in November.

•    Booklets on animal handling will be available soon from school, at the school office; more specific details will be available closer to the day.

•    Animal feed (Milk Powder) and teats can be obtained from farm supply outlets. Feeding regimes and mixing instructions are always on the container.

Dianne Wyatt in the school office is able to assist with any questions you may have and can talk to the children about how to train their animal if needed.

Reading Together Workshop

Reading Together Workshop - Term 3

A form regarding this came home with your child yesterday. This is a great workshop and will really give you a new insight into the process of learning to read (how hard it actually is) and how you can help at home. Reading at home will become easier and much more enjoyable for everyone. Teachers really notice the progress of children in class when parents have attended this workshop.

This will be the last opportunity this year. Workshops are held in the school library from 5.30pm and run for 1hour and 15 minutes.

The programme does not cost anything, and childcare is provided by Leslee Allen and Laura Parker so that both parents can attend. Children will be provided with dinner.

Either return your form this afternoon, or by day one of next term so that catering can be organised.

Awards Assembly

This will be held as usual at 12pm on the last day of term.

We will award certificates to all Good Citizens, announce Good Citizen of the term, give out Principal awards and give an award to the top scrap metal collector of the term.  All welcome.
