At Kaurihohore we believe sport and regular physical activity should be part of every child's day. We do our best with very limited resources to give children as many opportunities as we can to learn through sport. Throughout the year teachers run regular Physical Education and Fitness sessions. In Term One and Four this largely involves swim safety.
We also have lunchtime sport twice a week run by teachers and train senior children to take sport and games at lunchtime.
Jump Jam is a school wide activity on Friday mornings.
Throughout the year we commit our kiwi sport funding to getting coaches into the school. All classes get the opportunity to work with these coaches. Sports we regularly get into the school each year are...baseball, hockey, soccer, rugby, tennis and basketball. However over the years we have had golf, league, indoor bowls, badminton. Each year we try to get at least five different sports into the school.
We also have netball teams which children can join and we are affiliated with Hikurangi hockey club. Soccer is run by Kamo club and registration is advertised in the school newsletter.
In Term Four all classes concentrate on athletics skills.
Children in Year 4 - 6 get the opportunity to go out to a Summer Sports tournament and a Winter Sports tournament.
We also have a bike track available to use and will be involved in getting a school set of bikes into the school for children to use.
As an extra we also run a sports academy. Each year children in year 3 - 6 get the opportunity to trial for a position in this academy. If selected they get the opportunity to work with a range of coaches every Friday afternoon. There is a cost to parents if children want to be part of this academy.
